Blink, colors, etc. - Again, got some of these in the blog post on battery indicators. Almost word-for-word take anything about tones: has to be explained on screen (can be status, not modal dialogue), should have some self-evident meaning. Red is bad. Unless its your brand. Also about blink rates and glanceability. Nothing should blink infrequently, and when possible avoid blinking at all.

Clearly talk about: 1) dumb old lights, and the standard that it's above the screen, to one side (even centered is now odd). 2) adjacent to relative thing, like the Droid charger light; similar is sticking a light ON the charger block, etc. 3) ambient lighting. bezel lights, the Wii CD tray light, etc. Nothing to do with the area lit (e.g. the Wii isn't saying "feed me") just is something very noticeable

Throbbing and other subtle changes are better for many of these.
