I like how WebOS used the splash for contacting a phone to a slate. Consider how such things can be better than beep or light or modal for say the coming NFC revolution. |
All types, like the Pre water-splash for touch to indicate it happened, but focus on scroll-and-select really with focus. And text input, always have an input cursor instead of just assuming people know, AND make the field highlighted in focus, etc.
